Friend Math

Upon returning from the school Sock Hop last Friday, Matt told me that Hugo sure does have a lot of friends. Apparently, quite a number of them came up to him at the dance and asked him to sit with them. Today, when Hugo got home from school, I mentioned to him how Daddy said he had a lot of friends. Typical Hugo, here was his response as near as I can write it:

"So. I do have a lot of friends. There are 27 kids in my class, but myself is not my friend, so 26. So...then we add six, no wait, five, because of my family. K. So. Plus two hippos and uhh...hmm... So, that's 33 friends. We should ask Declan this math problem and see if he can do it."

Gosh, I love this kid.

Hugo Says

I want to remember for always how Hugo says "Awfulsteins" instead of Steinhofels and "Ew Nork" instead of New York. He will turn five soon and is getting too big too fast. I want to hold on to four forever.

Car Conversations

Hugo: I don't want to die any day.
Declan: Do you want to go to the underworld?  If you don't die, you go to the underworld.
Hugo: Bunnies live in the underworld!

Marriage

Hugo: Mommy, when I grow up can I marry you?
Me: ...sure???
Hugo: But, I heard you were already married.
Me: ...well, that is true.
Hugo: Well, maybe you could marry me and Kyrie could marry Daddy and Lari could marry Declan.

Train Obsessed

Hugo got up from his nap today and was talking with Kyrie and me about what a big boy he is now, in a big boy bed. And then...he tooted.

So, he said, "But, I still toot!"

He seemed concerned about this, so I replied, "Everyone toots. Daddies toot, grandpas toot, dogs toot, even sisters toot."

To which he responded, "Even trains toot like a hundred times!"

I was a bit distracted and was like, "Uhhh, trains don't toot", but as soon as it was out of my mouth, I realized my mistake. Of course trains toot!

I looked at him and smiled big-time, "You made a joke."

And so, we all had a good laugh. I'm glad that, at four, at least his (possibly non-attempt at) jokes are funny!  (His knock-knock jokes leave a bit to be desired.) It's always entertaining the things that come out of this kid's mouth.

Hugo's Prayer

Dear God, thanks for toys and butter for me and for putting milk in my refrigerator. Amen.

Choices

Matt: Declan, you have a choice.  You can either put your nose in the corner, or you can go to your room.
Declan: Daddy!  I just need one more choice!
