Sisterly Acts

When push comes to shove.

Lariska almost cracked a smile, but unfortunately, her mouth is full.

It is impossible to get them both to smile at the same time. Grrrr...

Kyrie getting ready to leave for church with Daddy. Poor Lariska must remain home for her nap. Lucky Mommy gets some time to herself.

Lariska desperately wants to go to church, too. But alas, it is her naptime. She put up a good fight for the coat, though.

What's in a Name?

Does any mother ever not worry about the name they chose for their child? Matt and I knowingly chose unusual names for our children because we wanted them to be unique. But, one of the more unusual qualities to Kyrie's name is that there is a song that goes along with it. No. To be clear, we did not name her for the Mister Mister song. "Kyrie Eleison" means "Lord have mercy" - a prayer. We were naming her to be our Little Prayer.

However...on the way home from dinner at Grandma's tonight we were listening to the radio and what should come on? Kyrie thinks of "Kyrie" as her song and recognizes it when it is played. She was quite thrilled and bopped her head for the entirety of the song. I am just surmising here, but I think it is going to be very cool to have her own song until she is like ten, then it will just be plain embarrassing...and then, when she is older and that first cute boy catches on and sings it to her it might just be back to being awesome again (or, if the boy isn't so cute, even more embarrassing, I suppose).

So...what is in a name? Is it bad to have named our child something that happens to have a song to go with it? I guess only time will tell. I can tell you this - I do think our daughter has a unique personality to go with her unique name...so I guess Matt and I - okay, I mean God - accomplished something there.

New Teeth

This blog has, in many ways, replaced a baby book for my children. They both still have one, but I have gotten very poor at making entries. So...since I am afraid I will forget, I need to document it here - Lariska has two new teeth as of this morning. Her upper and lower left molars are poking through. Yeah! That puts her up to 10 teeth at 16 mos. Yes, my kids are late bloomers with the teeth. Lariska is not as bad as Kyrie, though. Kyrie and Lariska actually both got one of their eye-teeth at the same time. Lariska at around 10 mos. and Kyrie at 3 years! Crazy!

A photo my Dad took of Lariska and me. I had fun playing around with the colors a bit and this is the version I enjoyed the most.

First Day

Here is a photo of Kyrie getting picked up from preschool. She is proudly showing me the painting she created during project time. We really look forward to Mondays and Wednesdays in this house now!

Wild Friday

It was a wild Friday. Heather, Julia (2.5), and Katie (3.5 mos.) came over for a playdate. J.J., Jackson (2) and Tyler (6 weeks) joined us (Kyrie - 3.5, Lariska - 1.3) as well. Needless to say, I think, the chaos was quite a bit more chaotic today...but, it was also a lot of fun. The best part was that Heather and I actually got to have a small amount of adult conversation while the majority of the kids took a nap. I think they all wore each other out because after naptime Kyrie led everyone in pretending to take another nap in the playroom (see photo above).

Penguin Antics

It seems that Kyrie may have watched "Happy Feet" and/or "March of the Penguins" one too many times. Not only does she have an imaginary penguin, Cracker (along with faithful sidekick, Alice - a crocodile), but lately it seems she also believes herself to be one of these flightless waddlers.

We had chicken for dinner tonight - Kyrie exclaimed, "Oh no, Mommy, penguins don't eat chicken; they eat fish!" I convinced her our dinner was chicken-fish - a new delicatessen you ought to try - and she began to eat with zeal. Next, it was, "Oh no, Mommy, penguins don't drink milk!" Well...I have also watched The Happy Marching of the Feet of Penguins one too many times because I took her cup and made my best gagging/spitting noise into it. Kyrie laughed and laughed and then was like, "Why did you do that?" To which I reminded her of how the Mommy penguin eats the fish and then regurgitates it for the baby penguin. Ahhhh...now it was clear. And, could Lariska drink her milk all regular and normal like? Of course not! She needed regurgitated chicken-fish from the Mommy as well. After much hilarity and a lot of gagging/spitting on Matt and my part we finally got the girls to actually drink their milk and eat their dinners.

Sometimes I have to wonder if our techniques are totally going to bite us in the butt (like when she someday goes to a friend's house and starts gagging into her cup before drinking or something awful like that), but...I have to say, I think it might have been worth it for all of the laughter we had at the table tonight. It is awfully fun to be the Mommy of these two little girls...I mean, penguins.

Labor Day Weekend

Daddy finally painted the playroom wall on Saturday morning. Kyrie helped him out.

Sitting in the naughty spot.

Kyrie had to sit in the naughty spot and as often happens Lariska wanted to join her (I think she may think it is a privelege to sit in this corner of the couch). Jackson then decided he ought to join the girls as well. Despite the fact that only Kyrie was naughty I got a "sorry" and a kiss from each and every one of them. It was way too cute.
