In other news...

...just when you thought I had gone completely gaa-gaa over Harry Potter...

The girls are doing really great. Kyrie is having so much fun at preschool. Yesterday the theme was ice cream (the pirate theme ended last Thursday) and they even got to sample some. Today, the theme was bubbles. They got to practice blowing bubbles by blowing into chocolate milk. Too cool.

Lariska is getting to be such a big girl. She is working very hard on lots of new words and tonight attempted to say "strawberry". It came out something like "ssss-ttt-eeeeee". Still, not bad. Her vocab now includes "J.J.", "pizza", "teddy", "Kyrie" (oh for sure, now)...and many more. The slightly frustrating thing is that she tends to prefer to repeat words rather than to try some initiative and say them on her own. Words she definitely uses all on her own are "up", "mommy", "daddy", and some word that I have come to know means her blankie but sounds nothing like "blankie" and I don't know it unless I hear her say it...so I couldn't repeat it if I tried. Oh, and she often says "Kyrie". In fact, it may be one of her most-used words, but it usually said in the midst of a really long babble, so if you aren't listening for it during her story of angst and woe you may not hear it.

Another adorable thing Lariska is now doing is cracking open books and then just babbling and babbling. I understand that she is imitating Kyrie when she reads her books, but it is oh-so-cute.

Kyrie's quote of the day: (While on the potty) "Mommy, what will the poop say when it comes out? I will talk to it on the te... Poops don't have telephones!...I made a joke!" Followed by lots of howling laughter.

All Things Harry Potter

I was so exhausted after over 24 hours of hardly anything but Harry Potter that I left out a lot of the fun details. The photo above is of our spot in line to wait for the bracelets that would then get us into the "Harry Potter Party" where they would put us into another line (or many several lines) to await our book being (finally!) released at 12:01am. Matt got us this spot in line by getting up at 4am on Friday. We were the seventh people to be there. Sadly, in the end it didn't do us a ton of good since at the party that evening you lined up by color, not by any kind of number, and seeing as there were like 50 people in our color, we ended up being more like number 40 in line to get our book (first color through the line). Still...pretty good, heh? Yes, obsessed. I think I checked out around 12:04am, was in my car by 12:06am, took off at 12:07am while dialing Beth in CA (where it was only 10:07pm). I got home, read until I could read no longer - 4am - then slept till the kids woke me up - 6:45am - read some more, then had to leave the house since no reading could be done with little ones running around, and holed up at my mother's house till I finished in the early evening. It was exhausting, but so much fun for me. I still have a slight Harry Potter high, but I can't believe it is over.

When you are a mom, you often get to be a kid again by seeing things through your children's eyes, or acting like a kid in order to have fun with your children. This was totally different, since I have simply been acting like a kid of my own accord. Kyrie is still talking about Harry Potter, despite knowing nothing about it. I can't wait for her to be old enough for me to be able to read her the books.

If you are finished and want to talk about all things HP, drop me an e-mail!

Finished

I finished Book Seven (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) in it's entirety at approximately 6:25pm this evening. I won't give a thing away, except to say I really did enjoy it despite some of the reviews I have been reading online. They are nutters. And now I must go to bed.

Order of the Phoenix

Yes, I am so obsessed with Harry Potter, that Kyrie continues to walk around the house saying, "Harry Potter" in an imitation of Mommy's bad English accent. I find it quite endearing. Check out the shirts in the photo above. You can see the front on Kyrie - "I solemnly swear I am up to no good." And, the back on Lariska - "Mischief managed." I have to give credit to Shelley Estes for telling me about these shirts. When I found out they existed, I had to have them. Sad, I know.

I saw the movie last night. I won't give anything away (though, if you've read the book, then you already know what happens), but my personal assessment is that the movies are never as good as how I imagined it and it constantly bothers me when they change things from the book. But, if I can try and get over those things then I think I can say that the movie started off a bit slow, but the ending was pretty darn good. The special effects are worth seeing the movie for. And, although I wish they hadn't changed the ending - their intrepretation was fairly good. So, go see it.

Kyrie attended her first day of preschool today. On the way to preschool I told her that I would be taking her to the room with all of the toys. I said that she should give me a hug and a kiss and that then I would be leaving. She replied, "Mommy, I might forget to hug and kiss you." I knew that could be a potential issue, since my little darling has no problem jumping right into things. So I responded back, "Yes, I know you might forget so that is why I am reminding you." When we got there I got my hug and kiss...only then I couldn't quite bring myself to leave. All the other moms were remaining... So, I got another hug and kiss. Nope, didn't leave. Two more hugs and kisses later and moms still remained all over the place and I decided I had better head out. Kyrie was doing just fine playing on a rocking boat and I was simply watching her from afar. I headed up the stairs and that was that. The beginning of the rest of her educational life. Yes, I cried.

When picking her up the moms were all waiting upstairs, so I followed suit. We were called downstairs shortly after I arrived and from the top of the stairs I could see just one smiling face peaking around the corner. It was my Kyrie-Dearie. She was very happy and I got another huge hug. She showed me to some of the toys and her teacher found us to give us Kyrie's pirate hat and eye patch (the next two weeks have a pirate theme). Apparently, they didn't know how to spell Kyrie's name - and wow, did they butcher it. I told the teacher that Kyrie knows how to spell it and next time they should probably just ask her....I might have been a little sassy. I am not sure.

All in all, I think it was a success. Kyrie told me that she ate her snack on the jungle gym with some of the kids, that she played in the sandbox, and learned a new song, she read two books (which she told me about in great detail - honestly, she comes up with the best stories when looking at books she has never seen before), and used a scissors to cut her eye patch with.

I have a feeling tomorrow may be a bit harder of a day, now that she knows what it's like, but I also think that once she gets into the swing of this she is going to have quite a lot of fun.

My Life

My Life as the Mother of Two High-Energy Girls

Sometimes, I think I am going crazy. Sometimes, I think I have it all together. Sometimes, I think my life couldn't get anymore nutso. Most times, I wouldn't want it any other way.

Today, I was at the stove cooking tortellini for dinner. Lariska was in my arms watching the water boil. We decided to go and have a little sit-down while waiting, so I put her down to join her sister in the sunroom. A few minutes later, I watched Lariska walk by with the bag of noodles in her hand. I did a slow double-take and had to wonder, "How did the noodles end up in her possession?" I had no recollection of giving them to her, no remembrance of her picking them up from the counter that is too high for her to reach on her own.

At bedtime, Kyrie called me back into her room after the lights were out. "Mommy, a snowball crashed into my bed and is keeping me awake." Uh-huh, sure. Okay, so I swept the "snow ball" and all excess snow off of her bed and kissed her goodnight, yet again.

Nana taught Lariska how to dip her bread in her soup last week. I was telling Matt this at dinner tonight. Lariska picked up a piece of her bread and said, "dip, dip, dip". I had to give her back her plate so she could dip her leftovers into her spaghetti sauce.

You can't tickle Kyrie's stomache these days. There is a baby in her tummy. It is Alice's twin sister. (Alice is her imaginary male crocodile friend who has a mother - who is sometimes her son - named "Cracker" that is penguin that also came out of Kyrie's tummy a few months back....it is a twisted affair. You try and keep that straight.)

I did a quick 2-minute sweep-up of our never-endingly crumb-filled floor. I turned around for 2 seconds to get the vacuum, during which Lariska spread all the crumbs back across the floor while trying to help me out by sweeping with the broom herself.

In the last 48 hours I have had to reach my hand into the toilet twice. Once to rescue the barrette that was "accidentally" dropped in. And, once to fish out the flossing device that probaby not-so-accidentally dropped in. The flossing device landed on the toilet paper that was floating on her tinkles. Yeah...we got rid of that flossing device. My arm we are still keeping.

My fav comment of the month: "Your girls have made as much of a mess in the short time they have been here as Jackson has all day" - J.J.

HP Obsession

Harry Potter, not Hewlett Packard!

My obsession has hit new levels lately as we anticipate the release of the last of the books in the Harry Potter series. I have been excited about this book ever since reading the sixth book (two times in one month), but now that we are in the month of the release it is like a constant buzz with me.

I know...I am probably too old for this, but phooey I say. I am guaranteeing to you that these books become children's classics on the level of the Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings, The Swiss Family Robinson. None of which, I was alive during the writing of, nor could I anticipate the release of the final chapter of such a remarkable saga. Yes, I really am obsessed.

I recently went through and read each of the books over again (this may have been my sixth or seventh reading of a few of these books) and I was amazed at how much I still enjoyed reading them as well as how much I got out of just reading them all in a row again. I am contemplating reading books 5 and 6 one more time before July 21st (the release date of, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows") since there is just so much information in those last two books. I have so many theories, but I don't think you have time to hear them all, nor do I have time to type them all.

Basically, I just wanted to share why I may seem a little crazed these days. The movie of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" comes out on Wednesday the 11th and then the following week the book will be out at midnight on the 21st. Yes, I will be one of those crazy people who picks up their book at midnight and I will spend the entire day reading the book (an anniversary present from Matt - he will be watching the girls) and I will not stop until I am finished. And yes, then I will read it over again, because I am just that obsessed.

It's healthy, really, to have obsessions. Isn't it?

I can't wait!

Photos au forgotten

Here are some photos that have not as of yet made their way onto the blog, but really need to have been added.

Update: Our little/big three year old is much better this week. No major problems. It seems to come in cycles so I am sure next month we will have another bout with the crazies, but right now we will enjoy the peace. We also started swim lessons this week. Both girls are loving it, but today was the first day the pool was really warm and it was wonderful. Kyrie is really getting the hang of it and I am hopeful we are going to make some big strides this summer.

One of Kyrie's many piles. What compels my daughter to take all of the "things" she can find in a given room and put them into a pile. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but a couple of very kind people have called it "very creative". Yes, we will go with that. Creative.
