For her birthday Nana and Pop-Pop gave Kyrie a microphone and Grandma and Grandpa made Kyrie (and Lariska) a stage for the playroom. Oh my gosh, I have never seen such craziness, nor have I laughed so hard in a long time. Those girls sang their lungs out. Check out Kyrie performing, "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from the Lion King soundtrack and Lariska performing what I believe to be "I Just Can't Wait To Be King". I think that when they go professional it is highly likely that Lariska will do lead vocals and Kyrie will be the bee-bop dancer.
Upon further thought, I have concluded that my girls are both going to do lead vocals as well as dance. As long as they can handle sharing the spotlight, no matter what it is they decide to do I know they are going to be great successes.

Kyrie Kons and Too Much Birthday
We have not even reached the actual date and time of Kyrie's birthday as of yet and she has already managed to have two birthday dinners. Plus, we attended the birthday party of Julia Schwar today (she turned three on the 28th - Happy Birthday, Julia!). You add that all up and I already think we have hit the point of too much birthday. Tomorrow, the real birth-day, brings yet another birthday dinner, this Saturday is a party for another friend, and then the following weekend is Kyrie's birthday party. Sheesh! Can you say spoiled?!
On a more touching note, we got Kyrie a Happy Feet DQ cake tonight and she was so completely thrilled. She just loves Mumble and was so excited to see him on her cake. She requested the piece that had Mumble's face and I was quite surprised when I looked over at her and she had tears in her eyes. "What's wrong, Kyrie?", I asked. "Mommy, will we ever be able to go and visit Mumble?", she whined. Oh boy. "Save your pennies", I responded. Then there were tears, real tears, dripping out of the corners of those brown eyes and it broke my heart. All this to see a penguin that doesn't really exist...and her cake was melting all over the place. It took like five of us to convince her to just eat Mumble and worry about visiting Antarctica later. Sheesh! Too much birthday...and this is just the beginning.
Julia's party was a Princess party. Kyrie had fun dressing up in her costume.

The Dreaded
The Dreaded Conversation:
Kyrie: Mommy, why do boys stand up when they go potty?
(I can only make a guess as to how she knows this - either she saw Daddy or one of her boy friends doing it...or she overheard a conversation about it with those keen little ears of hers.)
Me: Well Kyrie...because boys are able to aim better when they go potty. You would get it all over the floor if you stood up.
Kyrie: Why?
Me: (Big sigh.) Well Kyrie, boys have a penis...so they can go potty standing up.
Kyrie: Why do boys have a peanut?
Me: A penis. I don't know...because God made them that way.
Kyrie: Well, Alice (her imaginary crocodile friend) is a boy, but he doesn't have a peanut. Some boys don't have peanutses. When Alice goes potty he sits down.
Me: ..................Okay.

On Wisconsin
Only in Wisconsin can it officially become spring one day and the next snow 13-inches.
To celebrate the arrival of spring, a long day stuck inside, and Daddy being home for Good Friday the girls had popsicles.

Three is the New Two

This was taken right after Christmas, but I don't think I ever posted any of their portraits.
If you ask Lariska how old she is, she will answer "three". Seeing as how she is not even two yet, we find this quite funny. No matter how hard we try to convince her that she is one, she will not answer the question with that response. Kyrie turns four in about two weeks now and we fully expect that past that date Lariska will also answer "four" to the question of her age. Ahhh well, maybe four is actually the new two.

The Haps
Okay, so it has been quite awhile since my last post. Where has the time gone? I will tell you quite honestly where our time has gone to as of late - to the task of getting healthy. This winter has been a perpetual sanity-suck in the category of health. Let's see if I can remember correctly...it started pretty harmless back in October with some general colds and viruses and since then has turned into five or six ears infected (between the two girls), asthma for Matt and I, pneumonia for me, bronchitis for Kyrie, and just this past week the stomach flu for anyone of the feminine persuasion in this house (Matt's turn may yet be to come???).
In between bouts of illnesses we have had some good times. We were at the domes in mid-February to see the annual train display, and just last weekend we took Kyrie, Nana, and Grandma to see "The Lion King". Kyrie is still pretending to be Simba and is singing at the top of her lungs, "Can you feel the lion king..." Okay, so those aren't the right words, but it is pretty cute nonetheless. We also got out to see "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium" - even Lariska got in on that one. She did well for the most part, but we did have to take her out of the theatre when we told her she was all done with the popcorn. She didn't like that so much. Imagine.
My brother, Tim, is currently in town, but unfortunately due to the inability of anyone to keep their food down this week we haven't seen much of him. We hope we are 100% healthy by Sunday so we can spend some time with him then.
And...Daylight Saving Time is this weekend (joy, the bi-annual screwing of the parents - sorry, I am not fond of time switches: messes with the routine, you know), so it feels like spring is one step closer. I have realized as I get older that there is something comforting in the changing seasons and I don't really mind it so much. I can endure winter knowing that there is a beautiful spring to come. And, in this household, spring brings....birthday parties! We know an unbelievable amount of kids with spring birthdays (including our own), so it is a busy and fun season filled with lots of cake and balloons. We are looking forward to it.
Hope that catches you up on the Kons Chaos. Stay healthy!

P.S. I totally forgot to add my musings about my big girl, as of late. Throughout my children's lives (thus far) it seems that I have measured their height not so much in inches, but rather in what point they come up to me while I am sitting. There is a practicality to this - when I dress them in the morning I sit criss-cross applesauce, and at that point I tend to notice where their eyes fall in comparison with mine. It was a crazy day for me when I realized that Kyrie's eyes were above my own (that was quite awhile ago now), but within the last week she is out of eye shot completely. I have to be on my knees to make eye contact with her now. She turns four sooner than I want to admit, and it seems that another stage in her life has been reached. She is coming out of the terrible twos/threes and is just this bubbly, creative, loud child that I love to be around. She always has something interesting to say and I really think I am amazingly privileged to get to listen to her everyday.
