Jose visits

Jose is Casey's friend from Argentina. Matt and I went to visit Casey there in 2001 and had a grand time. We got to know Jose pretty well and wish we could've spent more time with him while he was in the States. Posted by Picasa

I Like...I Don't Like

Awhile ago I reported that Kyrie had started declaring all of her likes in the world (with the most emphatic being chocolate). Is it any surprise that now shortly after she has also begun declaring all of her dislikes? This is a conversation we had today -

Mommy: Kyrie, time to put your shirt on.
Kyrie: I don't like it.
Mommy: Well, we need a shirt on to go outside.
Kyrie: Mommy, I don't like yellow anymore.
Mommy: Oh, really?
Kyrie: Yes, I don't like it.
(After much convincing to put the shirt on)
Mommy: Kyrie, I am going to put your socks on now.
Kyrie: No, Mommy. I don't like them. I don't like the yellow socks. I want white.

I know you don't believe me, but I swear to you that is practically verbatim the conversation we had today. I do not embellish. She is a talking machine and she knows what she wants. She also knows how to get it. Ask me what color socks she wore today. Is there any question? White, of course. It could've take me years to get those yellow socks on those stinky little feet.

P.S. Is it possible I can blame "Green Eggs and Ham" for this new development? I think I will. Thanks, Dr. Seuss.

Easter Saturday

On Saturday, we celebrated Easter with the Kons. Kyrie had lots of fun looking for Easter eggs and going for a walk along the Menomonee River. It was a beautiful day and we all enjoyed our time together.

Unfortunately....that night, we had the worst night ever! Without going into the gory details Kyrie was up from 11pm - 1am and then again from 4am-5:30am. On Easter Sunday she slept in until (and unprecedented) 10am. We missed first service church and the Easter breakfast, barely made it to second service, came home for a quick lunch, put her down for her nap and she proceeded to sleep through Easter at the Berrall house. She got up at 3pm and we headed straight to my grandma's. The Easter bunny was nice enough to hide her a basket there, but we had to leave mucho early in order to get our very tired Lovebug home for bed. Not the best Easter ever, but I guess it turned out alright.

Like I said, I don't want to go into too much detail but all of the craziness has to do with sitting on the potty chair, holding her pee in (at all hours), and a desperate Mommy and Daddy. The problem is not one of not wanting to use the potty chair, but rather one of now being afraid to go in her diaper (even at night). Our child is not normal....but I would not have her any other way. The situation is improving and one can hope that by the time Kubla arrives we will have it more under control. The good news is that she wants to use the potty chair and is trying very hard! From that aspect you gotta be proud....let's just stick to that. Posted by Picasa

Playing at the playground

On Wednesday, we had a very busy day. We went to McDonald's, ran a few errands, stopped by Auntie Carrie's to visit baby Will, and on the way home even stopped to play on the playground - a spur of the moment crazy idea that Mommy had. My thought is that I don't have a lot of time left where it wil be just the two of us and I want to get in as much quality time as I can....but, ummmm....yeah, let's keep in mind that I was 37 weeks pregnant on Wednesday and moving very slow. It has become quite difficult to keep up with my daughter, let alone convince her to do anything I want her to do. I think she realizes the effort it now takes me to make her see my side of everything and she is taking advantage of that quite nicely as any two-year old would. On the other hand, she is so much fun these days talking and singing constantly. I laugh a good percentage of my day and am so grateful for the little pistol I call my daughter.

Beep, beep, beep

The other night, while doing our ritual of rehashing the day in the rocking chair with Kyrie before bedtime, Matt mentioned something about Kubla. At that Kyrie lifted my shirt and wanted to "see Kubla". She rubbed my tummy and gave it a hug and then said, "Come out, Kubla". Matt and I found that quite cute, but had to tell her that she was going to need to wait a bit longer. She just kind of stared at us and I could tell the wheels were turning in her brain, but that maybe it wasn't quite making sense. So, in an attempt to find another way to communicate with her, I thought about the microwave and how she knows when her beans are done and said, "When Mommy says, beep beep beep, then Kubla will come out." Kyrie's comment? "Mommy, go beep beep beep." (Said as a command.) In response to our laughter she continued making beeping sounds for quite some time. Go ahead and ask her - she will probably tell you that Mommy is going to go beep, beep, beep.

Balloons Make Me Happy

For her birthday, we got Kyrie three helium balloons and Wed. night while out to dinner, we got another balloon from Bear Rock Cafe (kids eat free on Weds.). When we got home, Matt and Kyrie ran around the playroom. As Kyrie was running she yelled, "Balloons make me happy." I just about died laughing. What a goofy kid.

For anyone who doubts that she really said those words, I am fairly certain that she stole them from a song on her Dora CD. It goes something like, "Let's look for all of the things that make us happy and shout them out with me..." And, they name all the things that make them happy. I can say with some confidence that balloons must be one of those things and Kyrie seems to have a strange memory for songs. She can sing the entirety of more songs than I care to count. What a child. Posted by Picasa

My father is an awesome photographer. I asked him to take some photos of Kyrie in place of going to a dept. store and he did a spectacular job. Here are some of our favorites, but there are many many more! Thanks Pop!!
