Talking?
Lariska appears to be saying some words. Matt and I have both definitely heard her saying Dada - not just randomly but when Matt walks into the room or picks her up. I witnessed a "Mama" when I walked into the room awhile ago now. And, I can also say with fair certainty that she is saying "up" and "all done" (ahh du). She says "all done" in response to my signing it and saying it at the same time after every meal. If you hear it, I think you would agree. We also think she is waving, attempting to clap, and potentially signing milk, though weirdly.
How can this be? Our baby is growing up way too fast.

Humor
Kyrie's sense of humor is becoming more keen every week. Yesterday, we taught her two very juvenile antics. Rather than learn them separately, she combined them into one very funny and fun joke:
Us: Pete and Repeat were sitting in a boat. Pete fell out. Who was left?
Kyrie: Tickle me! (Followed by fits of giggles and lots of tickling.)

Nanny Needed
Well, if you read my "Toddler Heaven" posting below, I mention that I may post later about our adventure at Stonefire Pizza. Turns out, my creative juices are flowing tonight and I know that if I don't do it now, it will never happen. So hear ye, hear ye...the great story of my desperate plight as a mother.
Jen has three children all under the age of 3-1/3 years. Heather has two children (three and six months), Linda has two children, but only her 2-1/2 year old is present. I have two kids (2-1/2 and seven months). We make up the motley crew celebrating Amanda's second birthday. The children, completely overwhelmed at first, wander from room to room trying to decide where they belong. Eventually, most get hungry and sit down with their mothers to have a bite to eat.
Me? I hold Lariska pell-mell, tumble-bumble, faced outward in the crook of my elbow...she is attempting to catapult herself elsewhere. I am chasing Kyrie from room to room at the speed of what feels like insanity. I look at the other mothers and say, "Do you think she's okay by herself? If I spend the entire time following her I won't be able to talk to any of you." They all reassure me that Kyrie can't really go anywhere, plus I have a little chat with Number One about her boundaries, and I am feeling reasonably contented that all is right in the world tonight (or this morning anyway).
I have three sips of the first coffee I have had in over 16 months plus a bite of some danish when Skeeter (add that to my list of nicknames for Kyrie) stops in for some nourishment herself. A few chomps later and it's off to the races. The moms head to the block room and congregate there with the large majority of the kids who build a nice tower. Kyrie? Ummm....she's elsewhere.
Eventually, the kids disperse and we moms are now talking outside the Pizza Room when a staff person walks quickly by saying something about finding a mother. We peek into the room from whence she has come and upon seeing a red jogging suit lying on the floor I quickly hand the Guber off and run to Kyrie. She is crying quite hard and making a terrible scene, but a kiss from mommy and everything is better. But, it's definitely time to go.
"I need to eat my fruit." Go ahead, I will get Lariska ready. "I have a poop." Ughhhh.... I leave Lariska with The Moms and head to the bathroom. Kyrie and I have a lovely time talking about sinks and washing hands, but when we return Lariska is quite furious. It is definitely time to go. Ahhh, but alas...where has the fruit gone? Away, I tell you. Away. Now I have two crying kids and three moms helping me out while their six children are sitting somewhat quietly. And, this is not something new to me.
Incompetent mothering? I think not. Maybe I am over-confident, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I am up for Mother of the Year. Okay, maybe not, (okay, definitely not), but I have gone over it a bazillion times in my head and the only logical conclusion I can come up with is that I have high-energy children who require some extra special care..well, all children require extra special care. What I mean is that my children require some extra special different kind of care. Or maybe it is just me who needs the extra care. High-energy children of a low-energy mother. Who ever heard of a stay-at-home mom who needed a Nanny?

The bright side of things
My good friend, Jen, feels the following story to be blog-worthy. I am not sure you will concur, but I guess I will post it nonetheless. Rather than re-type the whole thing, I am just going to paste my e-mail to her:
Yesterday, after weeks worth of Kyrie consistently pooping in her diaper in the crib after I put her down for a nap I decided to test the potty training thing again. So, I asked her if she wanted to try and poop before naptime. She said, "no". I asked her if she wanted to sit on the potty chair in exchange for a cookie. "Yes"...duh. No potty, no poop, one crabby Lariska later, and I called it quits. Naptime everyone!
But, Kyrie did not want to put her pants on. "I want to run around naked." Against my better judgement, I let her. I went to nurse Lariska to sleep (our new ritual) while Kyrie played in her bedroom. Deep down I knew this was going to happen, but one can always hope, right? In the middle of nursing Lariska, I heard, "Mommy, mommy, mommy!!!" So, I ran. Uhhhh....yeah.... Big solid block of poop in the middle of the floor.
Looking on the bright side of things, at least she didn't have diarrhea.

Toddler Heaven
Yes, we have discovered toddler heaven. It resides in New Berlin (or is it Hales Corners?) at Stonefire Pizza. You may think this place is for big kids or even adults, but no...their Mommy and Me time (9am - 11am) is wonderful, exhausting fun. For a little over $5.00 we got to have some danishes, coffee, juice, and fruit, but more importantly we got to play, play, play. Kyrie could not have been more overwhelmed by the train room, the water room, the pizza room, the block room, and the jungle gym - so much fun. I will leave the part out about both my children melting down at the same time...or maybe I will just save that for another blog posting...
Thank you, Amanda, for inviting us to your birthday celebration! What a great way to celebrate! And, Happy Birthday!

Pottery Party
Last weekend, I invited some friends to glaze pottery with Kyrie, Lariska and I at A Touch of Glaze. I specifically wanted to make a cookie plate for Santa Claus and was very excited about our expedition. Of course, it turned a little chaotic near the end, but overall it went very well and as soon as I pick up the pottery I will post a photo of our plate and mug set - complete with handprints from both my little darlings. Below are a ton of photos from the event. (Thanks, Jen for taking these and giving me a copy!)
