Sandwich

As we often do on Wednesdays, we met Lori and Elliot at the park today. We ate our lunch at the picnic table, got attacked by bees, and then went to play on the playground. I knew it would happen eventually, but it still does not take away from the disgust-factor - Kyrie ate sand. She didn't just put a little in to see how it tasted, she scooped an entire mouth full and swallowed! I ran fast and still could not scrape it off her tongue fast enough. Her face was covered in sandy-dirt, her mouth was gritty, and we all had a good laugh - amazingly, including Kyrie. Hopefully, she didn't like it and won't be doing it again!

No photos today, but more video! This one is rather large, 40 sec. long and 3MB! So, be patient, but it is worth the wait! I probably won't leave these videos online forever, so check them out while they are available.

I Love being a stuffed animal Posted by Picasa

Lots of photos tonight, hey? Sorry, I just couldn't decide which to post, so of course, they all won! Which is weird, since I don't really want to talk about E.T. or stuffed animals. What I really want to Blog about tonight is broccoli. Yup, that elusive bright green vegetable that all toddlers love to hate. Being the tricky mommy that I am, I believe I have found the key to getting those yummy trees into my daughter's stomach. Here is the recipe:

Finely chop as much broccoli as you think your child can handle (or, in the least, will not notice). Mix with several tablespoons of reduced salt cream of chicken soup. Add some ground turkey and/or (cooked) whole wheat noodles. And, voila! You have a sumptuous, yet healthy conglomeration that your child may just possibly eat. Add a side of his/her favorite fruit, a glass of whole milk and you have the perfect toddler meal! Just don't let your child get too close of a look at what s/he is eating - one sighting of the bright green within the mixture and the jig is up!

They know more than you know they know

Cotton Candy! Posted by Picasa

This morning after Kyrie got up from a nice peaceful night's sleep, we were all in the kitchen when Daddy sneezed. Before I could say anything Kyrie said, "Bless" (which sounded more like "Bess", but I totally knew what she meant). You see, every time Kyrie sneezes I always say, "Bless You". It appears that without my even knowing it she has picked up on it and is now blessing her Daddy when he sneezes. Matt and I could only look at each other with big grins on our faces. Finally, we got over it enough to say, "Yeah, bless you Daddy."

It also seems that Kyrie is attempting to sing some songs. We have several toddler CDs and most mornings the first thing she does is beg to listen to one of them. Lately she says, "Raf", for Raffi and heads straight to the stereo. There is a song on her VeggieTales CD that goes something like, "I know that..." and right when the CD sings "know" she said in a sing-song voice "no, no". You probably had to be there to understand that she was truly trying to sing, but truly, she was. I can't remember if I have mentioned this before or not, but she also loves to do the actions for "The Itsy Bitsy Spider", "If You're Happy and You Know It" and "The Wheels on the Bus". Currently, however, I would have to say her favorite song is "Mary Had a Little Lamb" because she loves to make the "Baaah" sound of a lamb.

Finally, the photos above are of Kyrie having her first taste of cotton candy. Sadly (or maybe fortunately), she didn't seem all that thrilled. She asked for more, but it's not like she attacked us for it, like she will for a cookie. Well, like mother, like daughter, I guess. Chocolate chip cookies are my weakness in life.

Kyrie has been enjoying the mirror in the living room a lot. Today I caught her eating cheerios, walking over to the mirror, and then opening her mouth to see her reflection chewing the cheerios. I thought it was quite cute. Her curiousity is very loveable.

The big news of the day, however, is that Matt has passed his CFP exam! Shew! Matt has been waiting to hear the pass/fail result for over one intense month now and we are very happy that the news was good! Halleluia!

So Big Princess Posted by Picasa

Friday afternoon Matt, Kyrie and I attempted to attend the wedding of Matt's cousin, Katie Kons. It was possibly the last opportunity for Kyrie to wear her "Pretty, Pretty Princess" dress so we decked her all up and headed out for the occasion. Unfortunately, the "wild child" could not be contained and Mommy ended up leaving the wedding early to drop Kyrie off at Nana's house. Still, in the short time of her appearance she was quite a hit and it was fun to get to share our Lovebug with Matt's extended family.

Yesterday we headed to Irish Fest in the evening where Morgan Stanley has a tent? pavilion? upstairs area? every year with free beer and soda for their clients. Kyrie loved the parade that went by and was fascinated in the bag pipes and drums. When it was over she kept saying, "more, more", and tried to escape the area we were contained in to search out more of the parade.

This morning when Kyrie got up I received quite a surprise in discovering a new tooth! She now has approximately 4.05 teeth, with just a tiny fraction of a corner of her lower-left tooth having come up. It was a surprise because she has had swollen gums in the back on both sides where her molars are coming in for months now! But, absolutely no indication that there was a new tooth erupting in the front. Well, maybe it will push that gap closed now :-)

All in all, it was a big weekend! Hope yours was good, too!

Kyrie has spoken her first consistent Spanish word! She has been saying "abre" (open - as a command) all day today! Yea! We got her to say oso (bear) once, but it seemed like she was repeating us rather than actually understanding what she was talking about. I asked her to say "abre" today and she went to the cabinets at her Uncle Casey and Aunt Cathy's house and opened one of them - maybe a coincidence, maybe not?!?! Just the fact that she has learned one word in Spanish thrills me!

Vanity, thy name is Kyrie

Mirror, mirror on the wall Posted by Picasa

Who is the smarmiest of them all? Posted by Picasa

Kyrie loves to watch her reflection in the glass of the stereo cabinet - especially when she is dancing. So, I finally did what I have been meaning to do for awhile now and brought our full length mirror into the living room. Now she can catch a glance of herself doing just about anything. I think it is good for toddlers to see themselves and to learn that the person in the mirror is them. She had a great time this afternoon running up to the mirror and looking at Mommy in it as well as dancing in front of it and looking behind it. It should be fun to see what she does in the coming days as she gets used to its presence there.

Overtired

For some reason, Kyrie has taken it upon herself to protest her naps for the last 2 days. She has done this before and I am sure she will do it again, but it is exasperating all the same. Yesterday, I did manage to get her down, eventually, for both her naps. But, today she just would not go down for her second nap. As a result, she was extremely overtired this evening. We went to a house-warming party for a friend and she spent most of the time running around all crazy-like. Ughhhhh....I hate seeing her like that. It hurts me.

Here is a link to some video we took of Kyrie yesterday. She learned to dance from Dora and here she is showing off her new skills - Kyrie Dancing (1.8 MB - could take awhile to load).

Too Many Photos

Hey! Look what I have! Posted by Picasa

Shopping Posted by Picasa

More shopping! Posted by Picasa

Okay, so today we went a little camera-happy and now have too many photos to post. Grandma Kons came over this afternoon and played with Kyrie and had a good time watching Dora, and pretending to go shopping. I think I will post just three photos tonight and post some more of them tomorrow.

The news of the day is that Kyrie has stopped referring to Dora as "Do-Do" and has graduated to calling her "Do-ah" - an improvement, no? She is working hard on that "r" sound and I think it won't be too long before she has it. Seeing as it is the "r"s and the "k"s that give her the most trouble, her own name is a true difficulty. Cookie is currently "tu-tie" and truck is "tat". The really cool thing though is that we now estimate Kyrie to be able to say somewhere between 40-50 words and she seems to pick up a new one everyday. Crazy!

Hmm....where's Kyrie?

Uhhh....okay, so there are no new photos of Kyrie to speak of...I have gotten a little click-happy with Baby Jackson and have kind of, well, uhhh, I have kind of forgotten to take a photo of Kyrie. Oops. I even meant to take one of them together. I think Dan did - I will have to see if I can get a copy of that.

Well, we are all well here...just a little exhausted from a very crazy week. We have had babies born, grandparents die, 10-year reunions, and lots of stuff in between. Kyrie has survived it all and weathered well. She was quite an energy ball today as she ran from family member to family member demanding high fives and saying "moon" and "star" every time she came across grandma's seat cushions (which, incidentally, have moons and stars on them). She also gave me the heart attack of my life today when she ran all out towards the stairs at J. and Dan's house. I got to her just in time, but not before "NO!" escaped from my mouth loud enough to wake up Tokyo. Sorry about that guys. I was really scared.

What else? Life is good. Amen, sister friend.
